Dr. Roy Wade, Jr., is an instructor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania and a general pediatrician at Children?fs Hospital of Philadelphia Cobbs Creek Primary Care. Dr. Wade completed medical school at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in 2007, and finished his pediatric residency at the University of Virginia in 2010. He completed a minority health policy fellowship at Harvard Medical School, receiving an MPH in Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health. Among his honors and awards, Dr. Wade has received the Dean of the College Award for Service, the Merck Manual Award, and an Albert Schweitzer Fellowship while at Dartmouth. Most recently, he received the Janet Jeffries Award from the University of Virginia Health System. Throughout his career, Dr. Wade has worked to improve health outcomes for at risk populations, with a particular focus on the intersection between childhood poverty, adversity, and well-being and the role of social determinants in the persistence of health disparities. Building on the landmark Adverse Childhood Experiences Study, he has explored the adverse experiences of young adults in economically distressed neighborhoods in Philadelphia. His research and active participation on the Philadelphia ACE Task Force has given Dr. Wade a firm grasp of the Philadelphia context and strong relationships to advance his work.
