Psychiatric Rehabilitation: Principles and Practices - Practical Application for All Mental Health Professionals |
Psychiatric rehabilitation (PsyR) is a holistic component of the mental health field. It is not clinical treatment, but instead, a rehabilitative complement to traditional clinical behavioral health services. Psychiatric rehabilitation aims to support people in attaining desired roles in the community - as students, workers, friends, volunteers, etc. The principles of PsyR are rooted in hope, and the belief that all individuals have the capacity for growth and change. Psych rehab programs and practices operate with the understanding that everyone has the right to receive education and supports to ensure informed decision making about their own care and recovery. The principles of PsyR are applicable throughout all healthcare services, and a working understanding of these principles can strengthen the skillset of all healthcare professionals. |

Trauma-Informed: What It Means For You and Your Services (Part Two of Four Part Series in 2024) (Adult and Children) |
Being trauma-informed means more than knowing about a person's past or current experiences of traumatic events and/or victimization. It also means using our understanding of the impact of trauma on the lives of' people we serve to design services and environments that "accommodate the vulnerabilities of trauma survivors." (Harris & Fallot, 2001) We will discuss how being trauma-informed changes the way you provide service, or view your environment, or care for yourself. This class offers an opportunity to explore these changes and to consider the impact that being trauma-informed has on you and your services.

The lmpact of Childhood Traumatic Experiences and lmplications for Adulthood 2 DAY |
Part One of Four-Part Trauma Series
Over the past 20 years a growing body of epidemiologic and neuro-scientific research has provided
compelling evidence that children who are exposed to trauma, violence and adversity are at
significantly greater risk for a myriad of behavioral and physical health problems as adults. This
workshop introduces professionals to this research and its implications for practice. In particular,
professionals will become familiar with the language, values, and skills needed to begin providing trauma-informed practice to adults. The workshop lays the foundation for why trauma informed practice is essential for today’s health and human services practitioner and includes: studies of prevalence, key definitions, basic neurodevelopment and the relationship between neurobiology and trauma. |

this is a very interactive training and space is limited - a commitment to sharing this learning in your organization is expected
This workshop provides training for workers in mental health care to work with people who hear voices or experience paranoia. The method involves accepting and making sense of a person’s experiences and tries to establish a link between what the voices say and the meaning of their beliefs related to their life experiences as a means of providing both relief and the possibility of recovery. The workshop also provides an opportunity for the workers to understand the underlying principles of this approach and evidence of success by interviewing people with lived experiences who have been through the interview process. |

Trauma-Informed Approaches - Safe Spaces and Places: Designing and Delivering Services that are Trauma-Informed |
A key principle of trauma-informed approaches is safety. Safety includes both physical and emotional or psychological safety. But how can housing and service providers promote both physical and emotional safety? This course will explore how organizations can develop programs and services that help persons to be as “safe” as possible. Understanding that systems and programs in themselves may not feel “safe” participants will take a critical eye to their physical settings and how services are provided to understand where there is an opportunity to create brave space, promote safety and minimize re-traumatization. |

Recruiting Landlords |
Landlords are essential for sustaining supportive housing in our communities. While housing developments are happening in communities, the need to fi nd available units and housing is now! Geared toward direct service staff (case managers, housing specialists, supervisors, and other interested supporters), this training will focus on best practices in creating new partnerships and recruiting landlords.
As developments in communities take many years to create, our sector is heavily reliant on the current housing stock. Landlord partnerships are essential to the scattered site supportive housing model. Our work also has goals around housing people as fast as possible. This cannot happen waiting on new housing developments. |

The Traumatic Impact of Racism and Discrimination on Young People and How to Talk About It |
This presentation will discuss the pervasive negative effects of racism on youth development, as well as on their health and well-being, and the toll it exacts on families and communities who have been racially marginalized. Approaching the topic of racism may not be easy. It can generate empathy, concern, and compassion as much as it can stir defensiveness, anger, hostility, and a wide host of reactions that lie along this continuum. We each approach racism differently according to our lived experiences, self-awareness and critical consciousness, and position in our stratified society. This discussion is especially crucial in these times of heightened social division, and invites all of us to put ourselves into other’s shoes, regardless of who we are, our individual origins, or where we come from. |

Facilitating Attuned Interactions - FOUR DAY |
ALL FOUR DAYS ARE REQUIRED
• The FAN (Facilitating Attuned Interactions) Approach serves as a framework for parent engagement and reflective practice in home visiting. The FAN focuses on parents' urgent concerns and helps practitioners tailor responses to match what parents need most in the moment.
• The FAN also helps practitioners recognize how their own internal sense of regulation/dysregulation affects their ability to be fully present with a family. The FAN offers strategies to help practitioners feel balanced in activating/high risk situations.
• The FAN provides an approach to reflective practice that can be used by practitioners and supervisors.
• The ARC of Engagement provides structure for home visits/supervision and promotes collaboration throughout.
